Hey there!
Today is the day that I was going to use my turkey left overs. Now I have to admit the idea I had came from a Rachel Ray show off the Food Network. She had taken turkey and left over mashed potatoes and combined with seasonings and fried them up like little ground up turkey patties.
So I tried it. First I tried it with the left over sweet potatoes. YUK! They did not turn out in my opinion. Why to much moisture but the flavor was ok. So knowing that I needed some RR help (Rachel Ray), I looked up her show where she did these little magical turkey things. Well Ok I forgot to add the breadcrumbs. Shame on me!
Let's try it again. This time (with regular mashed potato left overs) they seemed to work out. I also took the left over cranberry and added a little cream cheese and mixed it up. When my husband got home he started taste testing. The sweet potato mixture was ok. He really like the turkey patties even with the cranberry/cream cheese topping.
However, I still was not crazy about them. I think it was more the texture than the taste. We have decided that we will try it again but next time I will finely chop the turkey instead of grinding it up.
Sorry Rachel, I am a big fan, but some things just don't do well with my tastebuds, or maybe they're just on vacation. HAHAHAHA
Just in case your wondering...yes...I still have turkey left so I will thinking hard to see what creative, inexpensive way I can use these left overs. Don't forget I still have ham and beans I made from the ham. I'll probably turn them into chili beans before long.
I hope you see how I have taken one item and have made several meals from it. Today we need to make our grocery budget stretch as far as possible just so we can afford gas.
Oh random thought....when I got gas yesterday I was grumbling to myself about the cost of gas which was $3.13 per gal. OH MY KINIPTIONS! But then I headed over to Star Bucks for a venti, non-fat, no whip, 2 add shot mocha and paid $4.80. Well needless to say it put the whole gas thing in perspective. No, I am not happy about the price of gas but how can I hollar about that when I am willing to pay such a high price for 20 oz beverage; not even a gallon. Again, I am not excited over the price I pay for a mocha but it certainly put the gas price issue in a different light.
And when I think in this realm I always go back to our government, from govener up to president needs to take a 10% decrease in their annual salary, and they all need to take a 30% in their retirement benefits. I believe that this would just about pay off our national debt...well if not it would be a great start!
Ok, I guess I'd better shush before the CIA opens a file on me.
Who me? Uh, no, I am a redblooded American, I believe God should stay in our money, public buildings, schools and governement. Uh no.....seriously....I was just joking about reducing our leaders salaries. I don't think we pay our government leaders enough...oh no....yes here let me pay higher taxes so that they can vacation in the Alps this year.........hahahahaha
